about

Following years of bold, colourful works my palette has become more sober of late and being a lifelong aficionado of black and white imagery, much of my work is now done in monochrome.

My time is currently split between four different series, namely 'taloned', 'wild', 'ethereal' and 'america(r)na'.

Since I can remember I've been fascinated by the avian world, in particular birds of prey. Up until now I've tended to err towards a more graphic style of painting but the 'taloned' series demands a more traditional, textural approach.

As a wilderness lover, many of the pieces in my 'wild' series have an empty feel about them and are largely based on visits to North America, Scandinavia and the more rugged corners of the UK.

My graphic style clearly manifests itself in both the 'ethereal' and 'america(r)na' series.

The tone, style and subject matter of my work often reflects both frame of mind and listening habits at the time; music having always played a important role in my life. I've travelled fairly extensively and much of what I produce is based on photographs and experiences from the road - the rest is drawn from somewhere within. A deep-rooted fascination with the American landscape may be partly explained by my Canadian heritage.

If you're interested in what I do or would like to reproduce my work, please either drop me a line via the 'contact' page or e-mail me at russanthony@live.co.uk. Giclée prints of selected works will soon be available to purchase - further details to follow shortly.

In the meantime, thanks for taking time to visit my site. I'm regularly adding pieces, so please call again...
